Please, just call me Juan Antonio – I much prefer my second middle name to my birth name.

I’m originally from Los Angeles, CA. I initially started working as a personal trainer to help pay my way through college. Deeply concerned with the direction of the American health care system, I chose to defer entrance to medical school to work full-time as a strength & conditioning coach in Oakland, CA. Thereafter, I served as a consultant in the fitness, dating and financial services industries.

I realized a few years into my entrepreneurial pursuits that my passion always came back to fitness and coaching. I’m most inspired when I’m trying to help people reach their true potential. I believe healing through physical training is possible.

I’ve been fully vested in the fitness industry for over a decade as a trainer, coach, mentor, business owner and “wellness” consultant. Most recently, I served at Equinox Fitness, Palo Alto as a standout Tier 3+ Personal Trainer. In July 2014, I was selected among 100 coaches worldwide to complete the first ever year-long Precision Nutrition Level 2 Master Class certification. I completed the rigorous program on July 27, 2015.

I’m an adamant student of science and psychology. I’m fluent in written and spoken Spanish, and hold an elementary fluency in Italian and French. I focused my studies on Molecular Cell Biology & Psychology while at UC Berkeley.

My training methods revolve around the idea of enhancing cross-functional performance. I’m actively involved in CrossFit, Obstacle Course Racing, boxing, ultra-marathons, MMA, self-defense, Olympic lifting, and powerlifting. I’m going all in on being a student and enthusiast of MMA.

When I’m not working, I can be found running the Stanford Dish, writing lyrics / short stories and reading personal development non-fiction books. The amount of books I have is obscene. I’m also a film aficionado.

I’m a writer at heart. And writer’s write. I’m the author of A Superstar Love Story: Powering Through the Friend Zone and Long Live: Beating Cancer Through Happyness and Selfies. I’m figuring out what Book3 should be and how to best distribute an epic 413 page book called Tell Me Something I wrote a few years back (and let go unpublished). You can read some of my poems on medium.com – I Am From… and Dreams of JA went over really well with the fans.

I also contribute my writing to The Huffington Post.

One last thing, I kind of compete in 24hr races. Crazy, I know. It’s this little thing called World’s Toughest Mudder. I did it in 2012, 2013 & 2014. I planned on retiring after my third attempt in 2014, but I’m 75.13% sure I’m doing it this November 2016. Why I do this god-forsaken race is a bit complicated. This story about Taylor Swift can give you a taste of the three-year ordeal.

Hi Everyone! I’m an independent filmmaker in San Francisco Bay Area. What does that mean? Pretty much, I love to makes films, act in them, and create Youtube videos. I’m a lover of films; TV shows and I spend many hours watching tons of Youtube content so a good portion of my day is spent either on my computer or in front of a TV.

In the film world I specializes in production management, script breakdowns, working with actors, setting up schedules, keeping up to date on deadlines and always keeping a great sense of humor on set. I love being on set and feeling the excitement of actors and crew to make a film come alive. It’s the BEST thing EVER!

I have worked with producer and director Therese Vreeland on two projects as a production assistant, as well as independent filmmaker Amy Harrison on her short film called “Ms. Finknagle Succumbs to Chaos”. I have worked inside the SAG-AFTRA office in San Francisco and directed a 30-second PSA for STOMP Out Bullying which has been a featured video on their website and has amassed over 700,000 views. My senior thesis film “18 Cupcakes”, was nominated in the Vocational/College category in CreaTiVe Awards in San Jose and recently I finished working on a feature called “Fair Chase” as a first assistant director.

Fitness has always been in my life. I did cross-country for three years in high school and continued to do races (mostly 5k’s) around the bay area during & after college. Since I’m sitting for most of my day either working/ watching videos, I don’t get a lot of time to move around. For me, fitness has always been about proving to myself that I can do better than what I see and feel. There was a point in my life where I didn’t like how I felt anymore or how I looked, so instead of feeling more down and upset about it, I made a change. I train for me, myself and I. How I look, feel and train will all be up to me.
